The TIE Campaign

In this episode of the Pod Jim Slaven sits down with the founders of the Time For Inclusive Education (TIE) Campaign, Jordan Daly and Liam Stevenson.

Time For Inclusive Education campaign around issues of LGBT visibility in the Scottish education system. Jordan and Liam discuss the origins of the campaign in the aftermath of the 2014 Scottish independence referendum and the tactics and strategies this grassroots campaign deployed. The TIE Campaign has been hugely successful and we explore what lessons might be learned for other campaigning groups. And as TIE makes the transformation from small campaigning group to registered charity providing services we discuss what this means for the future of the TIE campaign and the future of Scottish education.

James Connolly’s The Agitator’s Wife

In this episode Jim Slaven returns to hosting duties for a show on James Connolly. Jim chats to Willy Maley and Kirsty Lusk, two of the Glasgow University researchers who (along with Maria Dick) recently discovered an anonymous short story from 1894 that they (and we) believe to be a version of James Connolly’s lost work The Agitator’s Wife.

They discuss what this discovery means for Connolly scholarship and our understanding of James Connolly, his life and times, and his political and cultural development. The full text of The Agitator’s Wife has kindly been reproduced by Cowgate Republic and listeners can read it here.
